SPEAKER: Peter Slintak, CBCP
TOPIC: Disaster, Lies and Urban Legends
This session will explore several disaster hoaxes, bad statistics, fake pictures, and crisis related urban legends. Case studies will focus on pandemics, hurricanes, power outages, terrorism, and falsified data. Peter will disprove a widely quoted study that, "93 percent of companies that lost their data center for 10 days or more due to a disaster filed for bankruptcy within one year of the disaster" and "50 percent of businesses that found themselves without data management for this same time period filed for bankruptcy immediately." Your personal credibility is diminished when you use false information. This presentation will help you separate the good information from the bad.
BIOGRAPHY:
Peter Slintak is a Certified Business Continuity Professional with over 17 years experience in Business Continuity. Peter has presented at Disaster Recovery Journal Spring World, Fall World, Contingency Planning Management, and has been published several times. Peter is the Disaster Preparedness Manager for CenturyLink, a member of the ACP, and was a former Program Director for the Colorado Rocky Mountain Chapter of the ACP.
