July 2021 Chapter Meeting

How Supply Chain Technology can Boost your Business Continuity Preparedness and Response

July 15, the day before our ACP chapter event, was a “supply chain” chaotic day.  Our speaker’s company identified 1,600 bad events.  Malaysian and Vietnam production shutdowns due to COVID, massive flooding in Germany and Belgium, and South Africa unrest were only three of them.  The very next day, a typhoon was heading to Singapore.

Recent headlines have alerted all of us in the Disaster Recovery / Business Continuity (DRBC) profession to the shortage of microchips, slowing the production of a multitude of products across our economy.  This is just one example of ways in which the world is becoming ever more unpredictable, and businesses must be ready to deal with events beyond their control. Lesley Hume, Director of Account Management at Everstream Analytics, discussed how Global Supply Chain Risk Management Technology can boost DRBC team effectiveness by:
  • Identifying End-to-end Business Risks
  • Helping Business Continuity Management support Functional Groups
  • Supporting Command or Control Centers
  • Managing Potential Impactful Risks beyond your "4 Walls"
  • Dealing with Unique Business Unit Requirements

The DRBC community understands that 80% of all supply chain activity occurs outside of a company’s four walls.  Threats of significant disruption across the supply chain come from extreme weather, border and port congestion, financial conditions, production impacts, force majeure events, infrastructure failures, and product shortages. Volatility is increasing, from pandemics to hurricanes and wildfires to civil unrest.
Companies need to be agile, be responsive, be ready to act, be able to adapt, and most importantly, be able to respond effectively.
