CRMC-ACP August Chapter Meeting: Where were you on 9/11?
On that horrific day in 2001, everyone reacted. How quickly did you begin reaching out to your family, your employees, your clients? Your message was clear: Are you okay? Can I help you in any way? Here’s what to do next. Communication was your lifeline!
As professionals in business continuity, crisis communications is an important part of our knowledge base, preparation, and training. At the August meeting of the CRMC-ACP chapter, we had the privilege of hearing from Kelly Williams of OnSolve, a leading vendor of software tools to aid companies in reaching people following a crisis event and then managing critical next steps.
In her presentation, Kelly zeroed in on the most common problems when the software tools you’re using – whether professionally developed for large companies or home grown – do not work as planned. People aren’t answering their phones! They’re hanging up! Nobody got the text messages! Or the administrators have problems: some groups have been deleted, or they can’t track who has listened to the message, or the wrong notification was sent!
If crisis response falls into your area of responsibility, it’s time for a health check! Is your data being maintained? Is it accurate? Are you gathering multiple contact points? And much more!
