February 2020 Chapter Meeting - Everbridge

Nothing in our lives more dramatically brings focus to preparedness – and to our industry – than a crisis event.  We’re living through one now, and our February meeting of ACP was timely:  we heard a presentation from Everbridge, one of the leading vendors of notification tools for use when responding to a critical event.

Josh White, Strategic Account Executive at Everbridge, discussed examples of recent incidents and the manner in which organizations employed his company’s tools to reach their stakeholders by text, email, or phone.

A mass notification tool is designed to get the right message to the right people:
  • Target the individual and not the device
  • Broadcast to virtually any communications device including desktop alerts
  • Escalate to ensure that the next person or group is notified
  • Set up templates with predetermined contacts and messages
  • Automatically publish to websites, internal systems, and social media

To remind us of the types of events facing the world today, Josh challenged the group to complete a survey that asked whether any of the following types of critical events had been experienced by companies with more than 1,000 employees in the last 24 months:  Executive Protection Threat, Utility Outage, Natural Disaster, Active Shooter, Brand or Reputation Crisis, Theft of Physical or Intellectual Property, Cyberattack, IT Failure of a Business-critical System, Supply Chain Disruption, and Terrorism or Acts of Terror.  Every item on the list was selected!  Notably, pandemic was not on the list.
