The May meeting of the Colorado Rocky Mountain Chapter of ACP featured Ryan Broughton, Director of the Denver Office of Emergency Management. Ryan began by presenting a community profile that explains in detail the need for a well-planned, well-coordinated, and comprehensive approach to emergency management. For example:
- Denver’s metro economy, similar to that of Greece, is $180 Billion
- The area covered is 155 square miles, including 53 square miles of airport facilities and 14,000 acres of Mountain Parks
- Denver is geographically isolated, being the largest city in a 500-mile radius with over 700,000 residents, 12% of the state’s population, and 67,500 businesses
- The North Central All-Hazards Region is 61% of the state’s population, which is 87% urban and 13% rural
- The city holds over 700 special events is public spaces
