ACP June Chapter Meeting - Discovering Leprino Foods!
One of the best benefits of membership in the Denver chapter of ACP is being surprised! We often think we know about a company or an organization only to find a truly exciting and downright enlightening story behind the scenes.
For our June meeting, 15 members of the Association of Continuity Professionals met at Denver’s Leprino Foods for a presentation about the company’s history, its current Disaster Recovery program, and the ways it’s moving forward into the broader scope of Business Continuity.
Karilyn Petre, Disaster Recovery Analyst, joined Leprino in 2013 and brought to the company her expertise gained in DRBC roles with other, larger companies. Her presentation included many facts and fun stories about the entrepreneur who grew his business from one Denver storefront into the largest producer of mozzarella cheese in the world. She shared a recent article from Forbes magazine that takes readers on a journey through this remarkable story.
“AN AVALANCHE OF CHEESE pours into the test kitchen at the Denver headquarters of Leprino Foods, the mozzarella supplier to Pizza Hut, Domino's, and Papa John's. First, thin wisps of low-moisture mozzarella, then a diced alternative, followed by an "artisanal" version, cut short and wide. Then came flavored cheeses made with a mozzarella base, as well as provolone, cheddar, and Monterey Jack.”

After Karilyn’s presentation, the group discussed the challenges inherent in a DR program spanning multiple locations in several states. Success in a large DR program is dependent upon training, and the group – which included professionals from Progressive Insurance, Cobank, Agility, and Oppenheimer Funds among others – shared the following training advice.
